Deutsch launch composite RJ45

Press Release - The latest addition to the range of harsh environment connectors from Deutsch is a composite version of their DTS-RJ45 connector for Ethernet applications.

The connectors ruggedise standard and screened CAT5/5E/6 plugs making them suitable for applications such as military vehicles, naval/shipboard, railway, radars and field data systems. The composite version offers superior corrosion resistance over its aluminium counterpart with over 2000 hours salt spray and provides a weight saving of over 30%. The composite connector housings are extremely durable with a rating of 1500 mating cycles and are intermateable with the metallic version and dimensionally within the requirements of MIL-STD-38999 Series III. The connectors are available in nickel and cadmium olive drab plating finishes as standard. As with the metallic versions, high performance shielding and grounding is achieved through the integrated shell to RJ45 metallic ground plane.

The DTS-RJ45 is available with the insert component factory fitted and sealed in one of four 'clocking' positions, providing additional connector keying options over those of the shell housing. Receptacle connectors are available in either Jamnut or Square Flange styles with an RJ45-RJ45 feedthrough or PCB mount option. Deutsch offer the plugs fitted with a factory tested high quality RJ45 CAT 5e patchcord or alternatively without, to allow the customer to simply plug-in their own. The connector sealing, screening and cable support is complimented by Deutsch's purpose designed IP67 backshell, which is also available in plated composite and will suit a range of cable diameters. The DTS RJ45 connectors have been selected for standardisation by VG in Germany as a result of independent performance testing.

The DTS-RJ45 connector is part of the Deutsch DTS family, based on the proven MIL-DTL-38999 Series III, which also includes the high current DTS-HC and the DTS-Quadrax. The high current connectors house a combination of signal (#20) and power contacts (#4) including 60A, 150A and 300A options. The Quadrax Ethernet/AFDX connectors house up to 8 contacts each transmitting up to 100Mbit/s and feature a similar ground plane design to the DTS-RJ45 providing these connectors with the optimum technical performance in their class. The DTS family has all the features you would expect from 38999 connectors including a triple start mating thread with anti-vibration coupling mechanism, shell-to-shell grounding fingers, rear accessory features and mating seals.
